Benchmarks ended in the negative territory as sentiments turned bearish in global equities on concerns of economic recovery.

Bombay Stock Exchange’s Sensex closed at 18311.59, down 97.76 points or 0.53 per cent. The index touched intraday low of 18260.71 and high of 18451.73.

National Stock Exchange’s Nifty ended at 5503.25, down 40.25 points or 0.73 per cent. The index touched intraday low of 5488.45 and high of 5547.25.
BSE Midcap Index was down 0.70 per cent and BSE Smallcap Index moved 0.68 per cent lower.
Amongst the sectoral indices, BSE Realty Index was down 2.62 per cent, BSE Metal Index slipped 1.94 per cent and BSE Power Index declined 0.78 per cent. BSE FMCG Index was up 0.33 per cent.

Losers included Sterlite Industries (-4.06%), Hindalco Industries (-4.05%), DLF (-2.80%), Reliance Infrastructure (-2.16%) and Jaiprakash Associates (-2.11%).

Bharti Airtel (1.63%), Reliance Communications (1.31%), Hindustan Unilever (1.27%), HDFC Bank (0.69%) and SBI (0.66%) were amongst the top gainers.

Market breadth was negative on the BSE with 908 declines against 423 advances.
