Indian markets ended choppy session on a flat note as traders chose to stay on sidelines ahead of European banks’ stress test results. Capital Goods and FMCG led the gainers pack while realty and metals disappointed.
Bombay Stock Exchange’s Sensex ended at 18,130.98, up 17.83 points or 0.10 per cent. The index touched a high of 18237.56 and low of 18093.93.
National Stock Exchange’s Nifty closed at 5449.10, up 7.15 points or 0.13 per cent. The broader index hit a high of 5477.50 and low of 5435.15.
Nifty futures crossed hurdle of 5400-5420 yesterday and triggered short coverings. Till the time Nifty it holds 5400 levels, we are in a safe zone and may move towards 5550 levels. Next week we are likely to see rise in volatility ahead of F&O expiry and key RBI meet. Advise caution for naked long positions

BSE Midcap Index was down 0.31 per cent and BSE Smallcap Index declined 0.54 per cent.
Amongst the sectoral indices, BSE Capital Goods Index advanced 0.47 per cent and BSE FMCG Index gained 0.38 per cent. BSE Realty Index was down 1.42 per cent and BSE Metal Index slipped 0.72 per cent.
Bharti Airtel (3.86%), BHEL (1.73%), ITC (1.04%), Infosys Technologies (0.87%) and SBI (0.70%) were amongst the top Sensex gainers.
Losers included Jaiprakash Associates (-1.72%), ONGC (-1.45%), DLF (-1.35%), NTPC (-1.30%) and Sterlite Industries (-1.25%).
Market breadth was negative on the BSE with 856 declines against 454 advances.
