Equities ended near day’s highs on Friday taking cues from positive global markets. Sectorally, realty, metals and banks led the upmove while defensives like FMCG and pharma stocks ended marginally lower. Buying activity was seen in highlight and sugar stocks as well.
Bombay Stock Exchange’s Sensex ended at 17833.54, up 181.81 points or 1.03 per cent. The index touched a high of 17857.58 and low of 17667.85.
National Stock Exchange’s Nifty closed at 5352.42, up 55.60 points or 1.05 per cent. The index touched intraday high of 5359.05 and low of 5297.20.
For the past two-three weeks a small consolidation was seen which Nifty brokeout yesterday. Now we are likely to touch 5500-5500 in coming weeks. Metals and realty stocks are looking strong and can be bought at current levels. Those who have telecom stocks should hold on to them
BSE Midcap Index was up 0.90 per cent and BSE Smallcap Index moved 0.38 per cent higher.
Amongst the sectoral indices, BSE Realty Index was up 2.48 per cent, BSE Metal Index moved 1.55 per cent higher and BSE Bankex advanced 1.34 per cent.
Bharti Airtel (9.70%), DLF (4.73%), HDFC Bank (3.09%), Reliance Communications (2.82%) and Hindalco Industries (2.52%) were the top Sensex gainers.
Shares of telecom companies like Bharti Airtel, Idea Cellular and Reliance Communications were on fire after reports that Credit Suisse Group has upgraded their ratings citing improved environment.
Losers included Hindustan Unilever (-0.96%), ACC (-0.39%), TCS (-0.34%), Reliance Infrastructure (-0.27%) and Cipla (-0.18%).
Shares of sugar companies got a shot in the arm after agriculture minister Sharad Pawar said it’s the right time to decontrol the sugar sector. Oudh Sugar, Dwarikesh Sugar, Simbhaoli Sugar, Dhampur Sugar, Bajaj Hindustan, Balrampur Chini and Shree Renuka were some of the top gainers in the sector.
Market breadth was positive on the BSE with 1575 gainers against 1323 losers.
