Increased buying activity in the last half hour of trade helped the equity indices to close above psychological resistance levels on Friday
Indices turned docile after a positive start due to lack of support from global peers. However, the benchmarks witnessed a spike towards the close of session on the back of short covering. According to analysts, the market is likely to hit a new 52-week high in the coming days.
We are expecting March settlement near 5325-5350 levels and next month we are expecting Nifty to hit 5400 in the first two weeks. Traders can buy 5500-5400 calls for April. Amongst sectors, metals and banks look good on dips. SAIL JSW Steel, Tata Steel, Axis Bank, ICICI Bank and Hero Honda look good.

National Stock Exchange’s Nifty ended at 5262.80, up 16.9 points or 0.32 per cent. The broader index hit a high of 5269.95 and low of 5237.10.
Bombay Stock Exchange’s Sensex closed at 17,578.23, up 58.97 points or 0.34 per cent. The 30-share index touched a high of 17600.87 and low of 17502.14.
BSE Midcap Index was up 0.07 per cent and BSE Smallcap Index moved 0.37 per cent higher.
Amongst the sectoral indices, BSE Oil&gas Index was up 0.78 per cent and BSE Healthcare Index gained 0.57 per cent. BSE Realty Index slipped 0.95 per cent and BSE IT Index declined 0.45 per cent.
Biggest Sensex gainers were Bharti Airtel (3.95%), Reliance Communications (1.98%), Hero Honda (1.76%), State Bank of India (1.42%) and Hindustan Unilever (1.4%).
HDFC (-1.55%), DLF (-1.36%), Mahindra & Mahindra (-1.27%), Tata Consultancy Services (-0.82%) and ICICI Bank (-0.58%) ended with losses.
Market breadth on BSE showed 1459 declines against 1381 advances.
