Indian markets ended lackluster session marginally lower as investors chose to stay on sidelines due to lack of support from global peers. Auto, pharma and technology stocks ended in the red while capital goods and power space closed higher.

The food inflation for the week ended May 28 has jumped to 9.01 per cent against 8.06 per cent in the previous week. Traders will be awaiting April Index of Industrial Production data Friday amidst concerns of slowing economic growth. According to polls, April IIP is seen at 5.5 per cent.

Bombay Stock Exchange's Sensex ended at 18384.90, down 9.39 points or 0.05 per cent. The 30-share index hit a high of 18449.64 and low of 18327.01 in trade today.

National Stock Exchange's Nifty ended at 5521.05, down 5.85 points or 0.10 per cent. The broader index touched a high of 5540.10 and low of 5502.05 intraday.

Volumes have been low due to lack of participation. With no triggers in sight, Nifty is likely to remain rangebound between 5450-5600 this week as well. We are bullish on Hindustan Oil Exploration with target of Rs 215 and IIFL with target of Rs 88.

BSE Midcap Index was down 0.12 per cent and BSE Smallcap Index moved 0.08 per cent higher.

Amongst sectoral indices, BSE Auto Index moved 0.57 per cent lower, BSE Healthcare Index declined 0.32 per cent and BSE IT Index moved 0.15 per cent lower
. BSE Capital Goods Index was up 0.92 per cent and BSE Power Index moved 0.23 per cent higher.

Auto stocks were subdued after car sales in May were up 7 per cent, slowest in two years. According

Jaiprakash Associates (-1.85%), ONGC (-1.80%), SBI (-1.31%), Hero Honda (-1.29%) and Reliance Communications (-1.27%) were the major Sensex losers.

NTPC (1.74%), L&T (1.27%), BHEL (0.91%), Reliance Industries (0.71%) and TCS (0.59%) were amongst the top gainers.

Market breadth was negative on the BSE with 1402 losers against 1388 gainers.
