Indian equities ended a lackluster session in the green taking support from gains in index heavy-weight Reliance Industries and positive cues from European peers. Most of the sectoral indices, barring capital goods and FMCG, ended higher.

Indices opened on weak note and turned choppy in absence of any direction. Some buying was seen in the afternoon and benchmarks managed to touch psychological support levels. Analysts are of the view that some upside is still left in the market but the benchmarks after likely to remain choppy for some more sessions.

Nifty has got strong support at 5500 and resistance at 5610. Any close above the resistance level will take the index towards 5750. Banks and pharmaceuticals look bullish while auto majors stocks like Tata Motors, maruti, M&M are bearish

National Stock Exchange's Nifty ended at 5556.15, up 24.10 points or 0.44 per cent. The broader index touched a high of 5570.10 and low of 5507.80 intraday.

Bombay Stock Exchange's Sensex closed at 18495.62, up 75.51 points or 0.41 per cent. The 30-share index hit a high of 18545.95 and low of 18351.24 in trade today.

BSE Midcap Index was up 0.77 per cent and BSE Smallcap Index moved 0.65 per cent higher.

Amongst sectoral indices, BSE Realty Index moved 1.64 per cent higher, BSE Oil&gas Index gained 1.28 per cent and BSE IT Index inched up 1.24 per cent. BSE Capital Goods Index was down 0.48 per cent and BSE FMCG Index edged 0.16 per cent lower.

Sun Pharma (2.41%), Reliance Industries (2.33%), Jaiprakash Associates (2.05%), Tata Steel (2.05%) and Reliance Capital (1.85%) were amongst the top Nifty gainers.

Hindustan Unilever (-2.56%), Hero Honda (-1.64%), Larsen & Toubro (-1.26%), ACC (-1.10%) and Wipro (-0.91%) were the major losers.

Market breadth was positive on the NSE with 1578 gainers against 1269 losers.
