Sustained buying activity on the back of positive global cues helped the Indian markets to end on a positive note. Realty, auto and capital goods stocks led the upmove while oi&gas space ended marginally lower.

Bombay Stock Exchange's Sensex ended at 18362.62, up 156.56 points or 0.86 per cent. The 30-share index touched a high of 18373.97 and low of 18269.32 in today's trade.

National Stock Exchange's Nifty closed at 5524.35, up 44.10 points or 0.80 per cent. The broader index touched a low of 5496.10 and high of 5529 intraday.

BSE Midcap Index was up 0.78 per cent and BSE Smallcap Index moved 0.65 per cent higher.

Amongst the sectoral indices, BSE Realty Index was up 2.83 per cent, BSE Auto Index gained 1.45 per cent and BSE Capital Goods Index moved 1.15 per cent higher. BSE Oil&gas Index moved 0.13 per cent lower.

Hindalco (4.43%), TCS (2.90%), M&M (2.82%), BHEL (2.64%) and Hero Honda (1.89%) were the top Nifty gainers.

A consortium of BHEL and ABB has bagged an order from Power Grid Corporation of India for Ultra High Voltage Multi-Terminal DC Transmission link with a built in capacity of up to 8,000 MW.

Mahindra and Mahindra will open a new tractor plant in Zaheerabad, Andhra Pradesh with an installed capacity of 1,00,000 tractors. The production is likely to commence from 2012. The company will invest Rs 300 crores in the new facility.

Maruti (-0.52%), Bajaj Auto (-0.44%), Hindustan Unilever (-0.26%), DLF (-0.11%) and Reliance Industries (-0.06%) were the major losers.

Market breadth was positive on the BSE with 1609 advances against 1260 declines. Regards
