The BSE Sensex provisionally closed 282.65 points higher on Tuesday as in-line GDP data numbers boosted investor sentiment.

The BSE Sensex ended 1.7% higher at 16,698.98, up 282.65 points.

The 50-share S&P CNX Nifty of the National Stock Exchange provisionally ended 1.9 per cent higher at 5,012.95 points.

Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) slipped more than 4% to Rs 263.70 on reports that the company's board approved documents for a planned share sale through follow-on-offer (FPO).

The government proposes to divest 5% of its stake in the company which would bring down its stake in the company to 69.14%. The government expects to mop up Rs 10,800 crore through the FPO.

The BSE Realty index closed 3.79% higher while BSE Metal index rose 3.81%.

Top Sensex gainers include: Reliance Industries Ltd (up 3.6%), HDFC Bank Ltd (up 3.8%), HDFC (up 3.01%).

Among major gainers on the Sensex were Tata Steel (up 4.8%), DLF (up 4.8%), Sun Pharma (up 3.6%) and RIL (up 3.9%),
 the losers at this time included ONGC (down 4.1%), L&T (down 1.4%) and Bajaj Auto (down 0.7%).

Shares of Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) were trading 4% lower at Rs 263.70 on the Bombay Stock Exchange. The company's FPO is likely to hit the markets on September 20, according to reports.

ONGC remains to be on my SELL list and could hit a target around 248-250 Regards
