MARKET ENDED 04.01.2012 WEDNESDAY

 WERE TODAY'S NIFTY GAINERS

SENSEX            15882.64            -56.72
NIFTY               4749.65            -15.65
USD/INR           0053.19             -00.11
UPDATEDTIME 09.28 PM  04 JANUARY 2012

The Bombay Stock Exchange's Sensex was witnessing a lackluster session in absence of positive cues from global peers and as bulls took a breather after a rally a day ago.

On hourly charts, RSI (14) is well above the equilibrium while MACD (12/26/9) is gradually regaining momentum. Adding to it the 13-hour EMA has made a bullish crossover with the 40- hour EMA confirming the change in short-term trend from down to up. Hence current rally is likely to extend towards the key resistance at 4825 and even 4870 in the coming 2-3 days. On the downside, support is seen at 4725 and then 4690 in the immediate front.

Index rallied quite sharply yesterday and further gains would turn the intraday indicators overbought. Hence profit booking seems likely after testing said resistance levels however confirmation from price action is awaited.

Sensex was at 15876.10, down 63.26 points or 0.40 per cent. The 30-share index touched intraday low of 15839.70 and high of 15992.16.

The National Stock Exchange's Nifty was at 4741.60, down 23.70 points or 0.50 per cent. The broader index touched a high of 4780.55 and low of 4733.05 in trade so far.

On the Daily chart, we are observing a strong bull candle with rising gap. Further, the prices have convincingly closed above the short term 5&20 EMA. This suggests further upside momentum.

In view of the rising Gap on the daily chart, we are of the opinion that momentum on the upside is likely to continue. Any close above 4800 level would confirm a higher top higher bottom formation. In such scenario Nifty may test 4850 - 4900 levels in couple of trading sessions. On the downside, the rising gap area of 4675 - 4636 levels may act as support going forward," said Arihant Capital Market report.

BSE Midcap Index was up 0.27 per cent and BSE Smallcap Index moved 0.14 per cent higher.

Amongst the sectoral indices, BSE Auto Index was down 1.29 per cent, BSE Realty Index slipped 0.89 per cent and BSE FMCG Index declined 0.48 per cent. BSE Capital Goods Index was up 0.77 per cent, BSE Power Index gained 0.39 per cent and BSE Healthcare Index moved 0.35 per cent higher.

Bajaj Auto (-4.50%), Mahindra & Mahindra (-3.43%), Hero Moto Corp (-2.59%), DLF (-2.56%) and Hindustan Unilever (-2.26%) were amongst the Nifty losers.

The Delhi High Court today imposed a cost of Rs 2 lakh on realty major DLF while dismissing its plea against market regulator SEBI's order to probe an allegation that it duped a city-based businessman of Rs 34 crore in collusion with its associate firm Sudipti Estates.

The telecoms department plans to impose penalties totaling Rs 1,594 crore on five mobile phone companies for allegedly understating revenues and hence paying lower revenue share during 2006-07 and 2007-08. The department has estimated that Reliance Communications will have to pay penalties to the tune of Rs 551 crore while for Bharti Airtel, it will be Rs 292 crore.

Bharti Airtel was down 2.41 per cent and Reliance Communications declined 2.29 per cent.

BHEL (2.44%), ICICI Bank (1.87%), Tata Motors (1.73%), Cipla (1.35%) and ONGC (0.89%) were the major gainers.

Market breadth was positive on the BSE with 1368 gainers against 1120 losers.

MARKET ENDED 03.01.2012 TUESDAY

 WERE TODAY'S NIFTY GAINERS

SENSEX            15939.36            +421.44
NIFTY               4765.30            +128.55
USD/INR           0053.19             -00.11
UPDATEDTIME 09.28 PM  02 JANUARY 2012

The National Stock Exchange's Nifty extended pull-back rally and closed above intermediate resistance levels led by gains in metals, capital goods and realty space. According to analysts, this seems to be onset of pre-budget rally and also as the market is anticipating some rate cut announcements by the Reserve Bank of India.

However, they advise caution as it would be too premature to factor in any rate cuts by the RBI. They are of the opinion that the market fundamentals have not turned bullish as of now and the pull-back rally is likely to run out of steam at higher levels.
"It is possibly a pre-budget rally which I was expecting. I do not know whether it is playing out now or whether it is going to play out some other time.

We may have interest rates possibly being cut and some of these expectations will also provide some amount of fillip to the market. So possibly this could provide a 300-400 point rally. Whether we are underway I am not too sure on technical front but by and large I would still remain cautious beyond this. I would still remain wary and defensive.

The markets had opened in the positive territory and gained momentum on the back of encouraging Purchasing Managers' Index data in India and China. India's PMI rose to 54.2, the most in six months, from 51 in November. In China, the index was at 50.3 from 49 in November. This boosted commodity stocks like metals which have been facing tough time due to global economic slow-down.

The Sensex ended at 15939.36, up 421.44 points or 2.72 per cent. The 30-share index touched intraday low of 15640.56 and high of 15970.31.

The National Stock Exchange's Nifty closed at 4765.30, up 128.55 points or 2.77 per cent. The broader index touched a high of 4773.10 and low of 4675.80 in trade today.

"Let everybody who has short positions cover them. When you have a narrow range type of day, after a three-four day rally, that would be a good time to get back into shorts.

This is an up and down swinging market. Probably the up-swing will be a little smaller than the downswing. If downswing was 100 points upswing could be as big as 6570. Be careful and do not try to go short after just one day worth of pullback rally. Just let the pullback rally end and there will be opportunities on the short side.

BSE Midcap Index was up 2.42 per cent and BSE Smallcap Index moved 2.33 per cent higher.

Amongst the sectoral indices, BSE Metal Index rallied 5.05 per cent, BSE Capital Goods Index gained 4.40 per cent, BSE Bankex moved 4.35 per cent higher and BSE Realty Index advanced 4.28 per cent.

DLF (6.70%), Kotak Bank (6.28%), Tata Steel (5.73%), Axis Bank (5.67%) and BHEL (5.64%) were the major Nifty gainers.

Shares in DLF rallied on reports that China-based HNA has bid in excess of Rs 2000 crore to buy its non-core asset Amanresorts.

Mahindra & Mahindra (-1.65%), BPCL (-1.62%), Ambuja Cement (-0.93%) and Hero Moto Corp (-0.70%) were the major index losers.

Shares of oil marketing companies were under pressure after government did not allow them to raise petrol prices.

Market breadth was positive on the NSE with 1238 gainers against 237 losers

MARKET ENDED 02.01.2012 MONDAY

 WERE TODAY'S GAINERS

SENSEX            15517.92            +63.00
NIFTY               4636.75            +12.45
USD/INR           0053.20             +00.19
UPDATEDTIME 09.28 PM  02 JANUARY 2012

The Bombay Stock Exchange's Sensex pared intraday losses and closed first day of trade of calendar year 2012 in the positive terrain taking cues from European peers.

According to dealers, the pull-back movement from day's lows was on low volumes and traders should be cautious as the downward momentum may resume after a few days of choppy sessions.

Analysts are of the view that investors should wait for some more time before making any investment decisions as the market has turned volatile near current levels.

"It looks under stress and I feel that there is a room for some panic bottom to be made during first half. It could be first quarter also. So considering that in mind we have to be cautious. The way the stock moments are panning out, you see panic in most of the stocks and suddenly one day after another either there is some sector or some stock which is hammered. It clearly shows that the spine of this market has become weak.

The Sensex ended at 15517.92, up 63 points or 0.41 per cent. The 30-share index touched intraday low of 15358.02 and high of 15542.85.

The National Stock Exchange's Nifty closed at 4636.75, up 12.45 points or 0.27 per cent. The broader index touched a high of 4645.95 and low of 4588.05 in trade today.

Nifty future trading at 4650 levels, would find immediate resistance around 4720 levels, sustaining above which it can test 4760-4800 levels on upside whereas on the downside, it now it finds crucial support around 4550 levels, if it breaches this level on closing basis we may see a further downside towards 4450-4400 levels.

BSE Midcap Index was down 0.07 per cent and BSE Smallcap Index moved 0.11 per cent higher.

"We have become very selective now, even buying in the mid-cap space because the risk to a mid-cap is far greater in the last leg of the downside and, therefore, we feel that it is better to remain in large-cap space more. We have to yet fine tune our strategy as to now which mid-cap stock or basket of stocks, which we like to push.

Amongst the sectoral indices, BSE Oil&gas Index moved 1.31 per cent higher, BSE IT Index gained 1.23 per cent and BSE Metal Index was 0.64 per cent up. BSE FMCG Index was down 1.31 per cent, BSE Auto Index declined 1.20 per cent and BSE Power Index slipped 0.44 per cent.

Coal India (3.61%), Tata Motors (3.03%), Reliance Industries (2.03%), Maruti Suzuki (1.82%) and ICICI Bank (1.73%) were amongst the major Sensex gainers.

Coal India has entered into a new price regime effective today, after its board of directors approved the plan on Friday.

Bajaj Auto (-7.40%), Hero MotoCorp (-3.50%), Hindalco Industries (-3.02%), DLF (-2.13%) and NTPC (-1.53%) were the major losers.

Bajaj Auto reported sales of 305690 units in December 2011, up 10 per cent, against 276803 units in the same period a year ago. According to dealers, the sales figures were below market estimates.

DLF was under pressure after reports that Crisil has downgraded ratings on its various debt programmes raising concerns over high debt.

Market breadth was positive on the BSE with 1408 gainers against 1259 losers.
